An Overview of ChinaThis week our class will be researching and learning about China. We will be learning about China's culture through an overview of their symbols, traditions and famous Chinese people. Students will engage in a series of projects, where they will combine research and art, in preparation for our International Night celebration, which will be held on May 9th at East Cobb Middle. **** International Night**** Come join an infusion of cultures with samplings of traditions, history, customs, and talents of our students, staff, and community. When: Tuesday, May 9, 2017 Time: 6:00 PM - 8:00 PM **Students must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.** Are you a representation of another culture, from another country and would love to share part of your homeland with us? Were you born in America, but have a heritage that you are proud of and want to celebrate your roots? We are looking for ECMS students and families to serve as “Diplomats of Culture” and share their ethnic entertainment, food, and/or information about their culture. Milestones Testing continues... This week we will continue with Georgia Milestones Testing. Students must come to school on time, prepared and well rested. Testing sessions are detailed as follows:
Milestones Testing Schedule this week: Monday April 24 - Math Part 1 - grades 6th through 8th Tuesday April 25 - Math Parts 2 - grades 6th through 8th Wednesday April 26- Science Parts 1 & 2 - 8th grade only Students will resume their normal schedule following testing sessions each day. The Wilds of ChinaThis week students will continue reading about the wilds of China. We will continue reviewing context clues to find meaning of new words and finding supporting evidence from text. We will be reading the last two articles from the series Disneynature: The Snub-nosed Monkey and The Red-crowned Crane. Students will focus on the following vocabulary words: forager, lichen, arboreal, troop, offspring, vocalization and rheumatism. They will be working in small group to complete a vocabulary brochure. For each word, they will provide a definition, an example, an illustration and a sentence using the word.
