Hello everyone! Welcome to our Remote Online Classroom. As you already know, we will be having our classes online, until school re-opens. For IEL classes, we will be using Office 365, CTLS, Brain-Pop, Video Clips, Audio books, and any other websites approved by the district. I will be posting assignments and instructions on a daily basis. So, make sure you check this blog and submit your assignments by the date they are due. Lessons from The LoraxStudents continue to read and analyze Dr. Seuss, The Lorax, this week. As we read and discuss the story, we will focus on the following:
We will visit the Learning commons on Thursday. Students will be checking-in and checking-out books for independent reading. The LoraxThis week, we will be reading The Lorax, by Dr. Seuss. Students will read to identify vocabulary words that they will use to describe important details, characters traits, and other elements of fiction in the story. As we read and discuss the story, students will be creating and completing a foldable book to apply the skills they learn from the text. This week we will focus on the following topics:
Verb Tenses PracticeIEL students continue studying and practicing verbs tenses. This week they will study irregular verbs. Students will create a chart using irregular verbs. They will use this chart as reference to complete sentences using present, past, and future tense. Students will also review tenses of the verb To Be, and subject-verb agreement using Have, Has, and Had. There will be a quiz on Friday. February 12th- Online Grades Progress Reports available on StudentVue and ParentVue NO SCHOOL Next Week! HAPPY WINTER BREAK!!! Reading Comprehension: TransportationThis week, students will be reading series of non-fiction short stories about different modes of transportation to review reading comprehension skills. Students will practice using evidence from text to support their answers to information questions and meaning of vocabulary in context. Last Titanic SurvivorsThis week, our students will continue reading about The Titanic. They will be studying a visual graphic design of the ship and learning to use tenses of verbs in sentences related to the topic. We will also read the testimonial article of The Last Titanic Survivor. Students will create a timeline of the major events related to the Titanic. They will use the timeline of events to write an organized piece of writing using transition words. Key Vocabulary: survivor embark lifeboat disembark emigration relatives scrape unlucky memento Return to the TitanicMonday- MLK Holiday/No School We hope everyone enjoyed the long weekend! This week, students in our class will be reading Return to the Titanic by Susan Goodman. As they read and research about this important event and its impact in history, students will practice some writing skills as well. Students will prepare a mini-book with the vocabulary for the story. The will complete a flow map that will help them develop an organized writing piece about the story. Students will identify important information from the article and develop a topic sentence for a piece of writing. Students will need to provide a reason for their writing and write examples to support their claim. Additionally, students will write a conclusion for their paragraph. Vocabulary: vessel, passport, passenger, crew, supplies, glacier, collision, iceberg, life saver, rescue, telegraph, survivor Ships, Boats and VesselsWe will begin our unit of Ships, Boats and Vessels. Students will continue to apply vocabulary that relates to transportation They will be reading informational articles to learn how Vikings built their different types of vessels. Students will practice identifying information from pictures and captions to answer question. They will be able to explain the reason their ships are so important in history.

This will be a very exciting week, since we begin the second half of our school year. We will begin our unit on Transportation. Students will be learning vocabulary that relates to transportation. They will be identifying different ways of transportation and reading informational articles to compare the speed and effectiveness of each vehicle. Students will also review comparative and superlative adjectives as they read and write about transportation vehicles. Vocabulary: transports, navigate, vehicle, car, automobile, passenger, taxi, train, airplane, ship, boat, truck, bus, helicopter, motorcycle, bicycle, subway, subway station, airport, shuttle, etc. Friday January 10th- First Semester Report Cards will be available in ParentVue and StudentVue. Envelopes will be sent home with pertinent information. The envelope needs to be signed to indicate that you have seen your student’s report, and returned to your child’s homeroom teacher. |
