Getting Ready to See the Eclipse Students have been studying information from a variety of sources and learning vocabulary related to the calendar. They have also been reviewing the use of capital letters. They will take a quiz on Tuesday. In preparation for the upcoming 2017 Solar Eclipse day, IEL students will be reading information and learning vocabulary related to the event from two different articles. On Wednesday, they will identify elements of nonfiction as they read the article Lesson on the Solar Eclipse for Kids! On Thursday students will watch a video and read an article from USA Today, A Solar Eclipse, to apply vocabulary in context and scan the article for relevant informatiousing concepts of print. Our school will be allowing students to view the eclipse , with parents permission next Monday, August 21st. Last Friday, students were given a permission form that needs to be signed by the parents in order for students to participate in the outside viewing activity. Students who turn in the permission approved by parents will be provided with Eclipse Safety Glasses. Teachers will be taking students outside to experience the solar eclipse. Students with no permission will remain indoors during the duration of the eclipse. Friday, our students will be taking the Scholastic Reading Inventory (SRI). This is an interactive computer-adaptive assessment designed to measure how well students read literature and expository texts of varying difficulties.
