Welcome to our Remote Online Classroom. As you already know, we will be having our classes online, until school re-opens. For 8th Grade ELA class, we will be using Office 365, CTLS, IXL, Video Clips, Audio books, and any other websites approved by the district. I will be posting assignments and instructions on a daily basis. So, make sure you check this blog daily and stay up to date with your assignments. Keep your notes organized by date and Topics: Finalizing Argumentative WritingThis week, students will be completing their argumentative essays. They will be working on their rough draft Monday and peer editing the essay Tuesday. Wednesday, student will be writing and turning in their final essay. They will need to turn in their edited draft and their final essay for two separate grades. Thursday and Friday, we will be previewing and unpacking Unit 3, The Challenge to Make a Difference, Students will be creating an illustrated visual to reflect the requirements for this unit. Writing an Argument EssayOur focus of study this week is writing an argument essay. We will discuss the guidelines and requirements for the assignment, as well as resources available to use as they engage in this assignment. Students will visit the Learning Commons, where they will be conducting research to use as part of their argumentative essay. The following document will assist students as they research and to take notes for their essay. Students will need to turn this document with their final essay, Friday. Elements of Argumentation This week, students will finish their Character Journey Explanatory Essay; due Tuesday for major grade. We will be moving into collaborative textual analysis to identify elements of argumentation in some essay samples. Students will take notes that they will use after the break, as they prepare to write their own Argumentative Essay. They will read, analyze and discuss examples of argumentative essays to identify the writer's argument, reasons, supporting evidence, etc. Students will learn to determine how the writer manages the six elements of argumentation in their writing.
