How can we affect our Environment?

This week our class will be focusing on informative/explanatory genre. Students will be reading nonfiction articles from Write Times for Kids, learning and applying vocabulary words that relate to the features of this particular genre.

Academic vocabulary to focus:

  • facts
  •  details
  • sources of information

Students will be learning to summarize ideas from text and developing a short essay following the steps of the writing process.

Additional Media Sources of information: 
  • Sumatran Tiger 
  • Endangered Species - Animal Planet -watch this video for a glimpse of many species that are endangered
  • Sumatran Tiger Vanishing Species - There are only an estimated 400 Sumatran Tigers left in the wild, loss of habitat is a major factor in the decline of this species.  The rainforest is being actively cleared by pulpwood plantations, putting added pressure onto endangered species in Indonesia.
