The Emperor's New Clothes ACCESS for ELLs continues... Most of our ELL students have already completed the Listening, Reading and Writing domains. This week we will be conducting the Speaking domain, which will complete the series of tests for ACCESS. Also, students in our class have been learning new words related to basic clothing and clothes to wear in different weather conditions. They have also learned to describe clothes using color, patterns and textures. This week we are finishing the unit with a fictional story, The Emperor's New Clothes. While we read and discuss the story, students will be learning new vocabulary words and their meaning as they appear in the text. They will learn to identify character traits and to provide supporting evidence for statements from the story. Students will also practice answering questions in complete sentences. This should allow the students to review concepts they can use for the unit test at the end of the week. Students will walk across the street with teachers and administrators for an overview of their future experience in high school. They will have a tour of the building and the different department areas as well as an opportunity to visit with a variety of clubs and extracurricular activities that they might consider as they prepare for 9th grade, next year.
